Shall we dance 1..2..3...
Each year our commonwealth has a end of year "prom". It is not really a prom, just a formal dance. The kids love getting dressed up and dancing the night away. The student council is in charge of planning it and since I am in charge of the student council, it kinda fell upon my shoulders.
My dear friend graciously allowed us to use her back yard. It is such a charming yard that was the perfect background to our party.

The student council met eariler in the day and decorated. What an adventure that was! We used plastic tape to make a hoop chandelier. It turned out really great!..but it was a nightmare to make!
They all worked very hard and pulled it off spectacularly!
Don't my boys look handsome!!
Everyone arriving.
We had dance instruction at the begining to teach the waltz and the quick step. The kids did great!
James was....not interested. But he did end up dancing later in the evening.
Luke loves dancing and fit right in!
The dance was a Masquerade. Everyone came with masks and look so lovely!
Dancing, dancing and more dancing!
All of the handsome young men.
Lots of elegant young women.
I brought a bunch of sick mustaches. The scholars had a lot of fun with them.
And so did some of the adults.
My lovely friend and her beautiful daughter. We are so grateful that she let us use her yard. It was perfect!
Things calmed down later in the evening. It was very memorable for everyone who attended.

Suprise! Suprise!!
There are good surprises and not good surprises. Both I have experienced. Thank goodness this was a pleasant suprise!
On Tuesday Morning James came running into the house exclaiming that our chicken had chicks! To this, I was SHOCKED. In order to have baby chickees, there must be a rooster!..Which we just got rid of a few weeks ago.
But sure enough, there were nice little fuzz balls peeping around the yard.
And they are SO cute!!

Taming of the Shrew
Every year our commonwealth performs a Shakespeare play with the kids that are taking the Shakespeare Conquest class. It is so enjoyable to watch these 12-13yr old kids spouting Shakespeare. I've directed it in the past and have LOVED it.
This year it was the play Taming of the Shew. The class did it in the style of the 50's. And they were SPECTACULAR!
Thankfully, James had a small part with LOTS of character. His grandma made his flavorful jacket. It was fantastic looking on stage.
Before opening night!
James with Grumio.
skip the first minute..the camera just started a little early.
Way to go James!!! Its been so fun to watch you grow with Shakespeare!

Hiking fun!!
Last weekend Cory took Luke and James on a little hike. Well..it was suppose to be little. James is working on his hiking merit badge and needed to do a ten miler. No biggie right? (For me it would be!!)
Cory loves to hike! SoI told him to he volunteered to take him on a hike. They ended up hiking into Touquerville Falls. It was five miles in and five back out. Here are some pictures of their adventures!

Thanks Cory for taking them! They had a great time!!
Cory loves to hike! So
Almost there!
You can see the falls to the right of Luke. There were lots and lots of hills on the hike.
Made it!
According to the boys, the water was FREEZING!
On the way back! If you look closely, you can see LaVerkin in the background. The road that they walked you can see from our house!
Thanks Cory for taking them! They had a great time!!

Making of the Sunflower chair
I think its funny how I name all of the chairs that I paint. I recently painted the Sunflower chair for a friend of mine. I started the chair before my most recent car accident so it took longer then I had anticipated.
Stay tuned for my next chair...it has already been named The Jungle chair. ;-)
The start. I like to start my chairs with the seat..then everything evolves around how the seat turns out.
I used the tip of a pencil eraser to do the center of the flower.
Almost done!
I love doing stripes in different shades of the same color.
The finishing touches are finally done, the chair is sealed up and its all done!
Mom's peach cobbler
When I was younger, my mom would make this peach cobbler on special occasions. It is one of my all time favorite desserts.
It was my turn to make the treat for Family Home Evening last week and it took me a while to find my special cookbook with THE recipe in it.
I decided to blog it so that I never have to stress over finding the recipe.

Melt one stick of butter in a 9x13 pan.
Mix 2 c. flour, 1 1/2c. sugar, 1 TBS baking powder, and 1 1/2 c. milk together. Then pour it right over the butter. Don't mix it in. Just pour it on and leave it alone.
Pour one quart of peaches right on top of the batter. Juice and all! Don't mix it in, just leave it be.
Cook at 350* for about an hour or until the top is crusty brown.
Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream. Either is very good!
